Calendar of Events

In addition to our exhibitions, the Schulz Museum provides a wide variety of programs and presentations throughout the year, giving our visitors opportunities to: meet professional cartoonists; view some of Schulz's favorite movies in our 100-seat theatre; make hands-on crafts and learn about different cartooning techniques; and attend Members-Only parties. Our Special Group Programs provide visitors with even more hands-on opportunities, including Home School Days, Scout Days, and special guest presentations and lectures. And at least once each year we offer a Master Class Series for Adults who want to learn cartooning techniques from some of the best in the field!

Each visit to the Schulz Museum is a unique experience!

Second Saturday Cartoonist
Meet, watch, and talk to cartoonist Ben Costa. Costa's web comics include the historical fiction fantasy weekly comic Shi Long Pang, and Death of an Artist, Age 8, among others.

Museum Mondays for Little Ones
Enjoy stories, movement games, and arts and crafts for children ages 1 through 5 and their caregivers on the last Monday of the month through September. Read more about Museum Mondays here.
Cost: $5 per child; up to 2 adults per child are free before 11am.
After 11am, regular Museum admission applies.

Summer Classes begin!

Ring in the summer with free admission and crafts facilitated by Isabelle Selby of Isabelle's Table.

SATURDAY, JUNE 9 1pm–3pm
Second Saturday Cartoonist
Meet, watch, and talk to children's book illustrator and author Kathryn Otoshi. Otoshi's book One won 15 awards including the E.B. White Read Aloud Honor Book and Teacher's Choice Award.  Her other books include Zero, What Emily Saw, and The Saddest Little Robot.

Story Theater
Join storyteller Victoria Goring for a live, improvised, interactive performance. Children of all ages will participate by providing ideas and helping Ms. Goring create a unique and different story every time she performs.

Vince Guaraldi at the Piano
Author Derrick Bang will discuss and read from his new biography of jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi, who is best known for the music he wrote for the Peanuts animated specials. Learn more about Guaraldi's life and career from Derrick Bang, author of 50 Years of Happiness and Charles M. Schulz: Li'l Beginnings.

Second Saturday Cartoonist
Meet, watch and talk to 15-year-old cartoonist Emma T. Capps who developed her weekly web comic The Chapel Chronicles in eighth grade. Capps' work has been published in national magazines including Creative Kids, Skipping Stones, and Stone Soup. She recently won the National Gold Medal in cartoon art from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, 2011.

SATURDAY, JULY 21 1pm–3pm
Guest Cartoonist
Meet Colorado cartoonist Daniel Conner who creates comics and art for Abdo Publishing, the Buffalo Bill Museum, Antarctic Press, Mile High Comics, HairBall8 Records, and others.  Five of his graphic novels, including adaptations of Shakespeare plays, are on the Accelerated Reader book list.  His creator owned series, Heaven Forbid, is published by Lamp Post and can be read at www.crazygoodcomics.com.

Celebrate the Museum's tenth anniversary with free ice cream cake from Cold Stone Creamery of Sonoma County (while supplies last) and live storytelling and cartoon performance by artist Joe Wos.

Learn to 'Toon
Join cartoonist Joe Wos for half-day cartooning classes. Take a fun, hands-on, step-by-step course in creating your own characters and comic strips. Advance reservations and required. Call for fees and reservations at (707) 284-1263.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 11 1pm–3pm
Second Saturday Cartoonist
Meet, watch, and talk to award-winning alternative cartoonist Steven Weissman. Best known for his Harvey and Ignatz award-nominated 1997 series Yikes (volume II), published by Alternative Comics, Weissman has also created comics for Fantagraphics, Marvel Entertainment, and Nickelodeon Magazine.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 18 1pm
Yoshiteru Otani
Join Japanese artist Yoshiteru Otani to honor the Museum’s tenth anniversary with a live, brush painting performance. Otani, accompanied by Japanese Taiko drummer Rin Matoba, will draw a 10 foot by 13 foot Japanese Kanji with a giant brush and “simu”. Otani will be available to meet visitors and sign autographs after the performance.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 19 10am–12 noon
Master Class in the Art of Paper Cutting
Japanese artist Yoshiteru Otani will teach the art of Japanese paper cutting and help participants make their own version of Otani's paper sculpture Lucy Who is in Love. Recommended for adults and children over 12. Cost is $35 for members, $40 for non-members.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 19 2pm
Morphing Snoopy and the Peanuts Tile Wall
Yoshiteru Otani will speak about his monumental works, Morphing Snoopy and the Peanuts Tile Wall, both created exclusively for the Schulz Museum, and will show the film The Making of the Schulz Museum—Yoshi Art. Otani will meet with visitors and sign autographs after his talk.
