Calendar of Events

In addition to our exhibitions, the Schulz Museum provides a wide variety of programs and presentations throughout the year, giving our visitors opportunities to: meet professional cartoonists; view some of Schulz's favorite movies in our 100-seat theatre; make hands-on crafts and learn about different cartooning techniques; and attend Members-Only parties. Our Special Group Programs provide visitors with even more hands-on opportunities, including Home School Days, Girl Scout Days, and special guest presentations and lectures.

Each visit to the Schulz Museum is a unique experience!

SATURDAY, JULY 11 ● 1–3pm
Cartoonist-in-Residence
Every second Saturday the Schulz Museum hosts a new Cartoonist-in-Residence, but this month the Museum is hosting two! Meet, watch, and talk to husband and wife cartoonists Damien Jay and Melanie “Minty” Lewis.  Lewis is the creator of P.S Comics, and her most recent issue won the 2007 Ignatz Award for Outstanding Mini-Comic. Jay is the creator of The Natural World and several other self-published comics.

NEW EXHIBIT | The Language of Lines:
How Cartoonists Create Characters

This exhibition, co-curated by cartoon historian Brian Walker, is the second in a trilogy exploring the foundations of cartooning. The Language of Lines: How Cartoonists Create Characters explores the four different stages in the creation of cartoon characters: the archetypes, the icons, the personalities, and the casts. It will feature cartoons from the late 19th century to the present day.

Join us for a lovely summer evening reception with caricaturists, wine, and hors d’oeuvres to celebrate the opening of our new exhibition, The Language of Lines: How Cartoonists Create Characters.

Family Weekend: Laughter Is the Best Medicine
Enjoy hands-on activities for kids incluidng exploring the Fire Department's fire safety trailer and learning about other health and safety issues. On Sunday at 2pm, enjoy the Felix String Quartet's performance of String Quartet in G minor, op. 10 by Claude Debussy.

MONDAY, JULY 27 ● 10am–12noon
Museum Mondays for Little Ones
Enjoy story time, movement games, and arts and crafts especially designed for children ages 1–5 and their caregivers on the fourth Monday of each month.
Cost: $5 for children; adults are free before 11am.

NEW EXHIBIT | The Facts Behind the Funnies: Schulz's Passion for Precision
As a cartoonist read by millions of fans, Charles Schulz felt an obligation to get his facts straight about the subjects he tackled in Peanuts. This exhibition reveals Schulz's dedication to detail in order to ensure that sports plays and positions (from ice skating to surfing), medical conditions, musical notes, and even Woodstock’s shorthand were accurately depicted.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 6 ● 5–8pm
FREE Evening Hours
Celebrate the Schulz Museum’s 7th Anniversary with free ice cream cake from Cold Stone Creamery of Sonoma County. Also view the Museum’s newest exhibition, The Language of Lines: How Cartoonists Create Characters, and watch local caricaturist Fabian Molina.

Every second Saturday the Schulz Museum hosts a new Cartoonist-in-Residence! Meet, watch, and talk to Leigh Rubin, creator of Rubes, a single-panel cartoon that appears in over 400 newspapers around the world. Rubes has been appearing in papers since 1984 and can be found in the Sacramento Bee, Washington Times, Los Angeles Daily News, and more.

Every second Saturday the Schulz Museum hosts a new Cartoonist-in-Residence! Meet, watch, and talk to Susie Cagle. A writer and illustrator, Cagle self-publishes her own mini-comics.

NEW EXHIBIT | Peanuts Cooks
Peanuts offers many tempting treats from Halloween candy to goodies delivered by the Easter Beagle. Charles Schulz also pokes fun at his least favorite food—coconut—in this exhibit featuring Peanuts strips, cookbooks, and licensing ephemera from Interstate Bakeries and Dolly Madison.

November 2009

Cartoonist-in-Residence
Every second Saturday the Schulz Museum hosts a new Cartoonist-in-Residence! Meet, watch, and talk to cartoonist Melaina. Melaina has been publishing her own comics and ‘zines since 2004, but has been creating comics since childhood. She began self-publishing comics at age 7 and won her an award for her first self-published comic in the second grade.

NEW EXHIBIT | Sunday at the Funnies
One of the historic roles of the Sunday funnies was to help teach generations of American children how to read in an enjoyable and non-threatening setting. Sunday at the Funnies features original art and newspaper tear sheets, a section on coloring the Sunday funnies, and a children’s creative play area.

Saturday, December 12 1–3pm
Cartoonist-in-Residence
Every second Saturday the Schulz Museum hosts a new Cartoonist-in-Residence! Meet, watch and talk to Rabbits Against Magic creator Jonathan Lemon. Having worked as a character animator for videogames, Lemon started cartooning in 1997 with a strip called Bigshot. He is currently the editorial cartoonist for HybridCars.com. Rabbits Against Magic is his latest comic strip project. He has won several awards for his art including two Zap Awards and a South East Arts Award.
